Heart attacks can happen suddenly, and symptoms may vary from person to person. Some signs are obvious, while others can be more subtle. With insight from Dr. Novinger, understanding what to watch for can help you act quickly and potentially save a life.
Common heart attack symptoms include:
Chest pain or discomfort (pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain)
Pain or discomfort in one or both arms
Pain in the back, neck, jaw, or stomach
Shortness of breath
Cold sweats
Nausea or vomiting
Lightheadedness or dizziness
Unusual or extreme fatigue, especially in women
Symptoms may come on suddenly or build gradually over time. If you or someone else experiences these warning signs, call 911 immediately. Fast medical attention is critical during a heart attack.
