Walla DeRosear

Walla DeRosear was born in Edina, Missouri and raised on a farm near Novelty, Missouri with her sister and twin brothers. She and her husband, Eric DeRosear have been married for 42 years.

 

Walla and Eric endured the greatest of griefs 15 years ago when their only son, Joel, died from brain cancer. He was a third-year student at the University of Missouri.

DeRosear graduated from Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State University, with degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology and a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Morningside.

 

“I taught 14 years in an elementary classroom and then retired after 20 years of being an elementary school counselor.” 

​

She says one of the greatest lessons she’s learned is to keep moving forward but changing direction is acceptable. When DeRosear isn’t spending her free time helping people, she likes to spend quality time lakeside in her cabin she had built 11 years ago collecting and obsessing about her Christmas ornaments.
