Dr. Blacksmith is a Psychologist and the Director of Behavioral Health at Northeast Missouri Health Council. She has served the Northeast Missouri community for the past nine years, providing psychological and psychoeducational evaluations and therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with complex developmental, emotional, behavioral, and learning needs.
Dr. Blacksmith graduated from Knox County R-I High School in 2002 and went on to attend North Central Missouri College, where she played basketball for two years and earned her associate degree. She earned her doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Missouri in 2014, completing her pre-doctoral internship with Dallas Independent School District. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at WellSource, where she focused on trauma-informed care, before becoming fully licensed in 2015.
Before joining Northeast Missouri Health Council, Dr. Blacksmith established the psychology department and provided services at Iowa Specialty Hospital, where she developed additional expertise in trauma and attachment. She is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) and Health Service Provider in Psychology (HSPP) and is trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Theraplay, as well as being EMDR certified. Her areas of focus include ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety, depression, childhood and adult trauma, and mood regulation disorders.
Dr. Blacksmith has worked with school systems in various capacities for more than 15 years and is passionate about supporting children, families, and individuals through compassionate, evidence-based care. She is grateful to work alongside a team that is dedicated to improving the well-being of children and families throughout the community.
Outside of work, Dr. Blacksmith enjoys spending time with her husband, Joe, and their daughter, Harper. Their family farm is home to four dogs, two cats, 12 chickens, 10 sheep, and two Highland cows. She also enjoys running, spending time outdoors, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, and her alma mater, Mizzou.
