When it comes to the health and well-being of your children, nothing less than exceptional care will do. At Northeast Pediatrics, a service of the Northeast Missouri Health Council (NMHC), families in our region don’t have to travel far to find top-tier pediatric care. Nestled right here in Northeast Missouri, our clinic is home to a dedicated team of pediatric experts who are not only highly trained but deeply rooted in the communities they serve.
Pediatric Expertise in a Rural Setting
In many rural communities, access to pediatric specialists is limited — but NMHC has turned that challenge into an opportunity. “Practicing pediatrics in a rural area brings deeper community relationships, strong continuity of care, and trust with families,” says Dr. Roxana Ionas, who has served local families since 2006. “It allows us to make a visible difference in population health and early intervention.”
Dr. Ionas, along with Dr. Michelle Kenney, Dr. Katherine Manning, and Stacie Bevill, DNP, PNP, IBCLC, all bring specialized training in pediatric care — from medical school to pediatric residencies and continued board certifications, as well as certifications in neonatal resuscitation and pediatric advanced life support. Their expertise spans not just childhood illnesses, but also development, mental health, nutrition, and newborn care.
“I’m a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, and I’m also an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant,” adds Stacie Bevill. “That means I’m trained specifically to diagnose and manage pediatric conditions from birth to young adulthood — and to support breastfeeding families from the first latch onward.”
Unique Services Tailored for Children
Northeast Pediatrics is far more than your average rural clinic. Here, our team provides:
STAT Autism testing for toddlers (18 months to 4 years)
Lactation consultations and in-office frenotomy services (to treat tongue-tie in infants)
Developmental screenings, autism and sensory assessments, and behavioral health collaboration
Quick bedside ultrasounds using wireless handheld devices
Access to a 24/7 pediatric triage nurse line
Telehealth visits to increase flexibility for families
On-site immunizations, care coordination, and same-day sick visits
As Dr. Kenney notes, “We also partner with University of Missouri for neonatal tele-consults and NICU services — making sure even our smallest patients get the specialized care they need close to home.”
Our providers also offer hospital-based care — from delivery and newborn assessments to inpatient coordination with NRMC physicians, continuing pediatric care from birth through adolescence.
Collaboration That Elevates Care
This level of care doesn’t happen in isolation. “Our pediatricians work seamlessly with NMHC’s family medicine, OB, dental, and behavioral health providers to care for the whole child,” says NMHC CEO Andy Grimm. “Choosing a pediatrician means partnering with someone who not only understands your child’s needs, but who can bring together a full circle of support.”
That collaborative spirit extends beyond NMHC. Northeast Pediatrics maintains a close relationship with University of Missouri specialists, including access to teleNICU consults, helping bridge rural health gaps. "This partnership allows us to deliver university-level expertise to families right here in our own community," explains Dr. Manning.
“We value our partnership with the pediatric team at Northeast Missouri Health Council,” said Patrick Avila, CEO of Northeast Regional Medical Center. “Their presence in the hospital—caring for newborns, supporting pediatric cases in the ER, and serving on key committees—helps ensure that children in our region receive exceptional care at every stage.”
Award-Winning Commitment to Maternal and Child Health
In recognition of its excellence, Northeast Pediatrics has received the HRSA National Quality Leader Award for Child and Maternal Health, a prestigious honor reserved for health centers delivering outstanding quality outcomes in pediatric and perinatal care.
This award reflects not just the providers’ skills, but their genuine commitment to families in the region. “All of our pediatric providers are raising or have raised their families right here in Northeast Missouri,” says Grimm. “This isn’t just where they work — it’s their home. They care for your children like they would their own.”
What Parents Are Saying
Parents consistently praise Northeast Pediatrics for its compassion, thoroughness, and collaborative care:
"Dr. Ionas is exceptional at spending the amount of time needed to care for my children. She practices family-centered healthcare by looking at the whole child as well as the family system. At our well-checks, Dr. Ionas always looks beyond just physical health to ensure that my kids’ nutritional, emotional, and safety needs are met."– Patient Parent
“I remember our first visit with our oldest daughter and walking out thinking, Wow—she was so thorough. What we were really hoping for in a provider was someone who would truly listen to our concerns, and with Stacie, we’ve always felt heard. She never discredits what we’re feeling, always explains things clearly, and helps put us at ease—especially during those times when we’re probably worrying a little too much. I can’t say enough great things about Stacie and Northeast Pediatrics as a whole.”– Patient Parent
“I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Kenney and her nursing staff at Northeast Pediatrics. There’s something so safe and comforting as a mother to know that our pediatrician really advocates for us and we trust her. She’s really gone above and beyond and I’m so appreciative.”– Patient Parent
“Dr. Manning has a unique way of presenting both sides of medical decisions with honesty and care. She gives clear, factual information without pushing one side, which helps us feel informed and confident in making the best choices for our child. That kind of balanced and thoughtful communication is rare and truly appreciated. I trust Dr. Manning because she consistently provides thoughtful, balanced information and truly listens. I feel like she treats my child the same way she would treat her own.”– Patient Parent
